Why We Like This Deal
After Kevin's stint in tech consulting, he was able to rank up as a Diamond Hilton member. This is the highest tier for status (read more) and we have been trying to maintain this status to make travel easier.
So, we try to stay with Hilton where it makes sense for the cost. We bought HH points back in July 2021 for our road trip as we were burning through our prior HH points booking rooms to save cash. It was the same deal that's running now.
The points cost us $800 and we almost immediately redeemed it at Home 2 Suites Boise Downtown for a 7 night stay.
- Hilton price: $139/night x 7 nights = $973
- HH points: 165,000, average 34,000/night * 6 nights, as you get 1 free night after booking 4 nights with HH points
- Savings: $173
Of course, there are better ways to maximize the HH points. The value of each room depends on seasonality. We try to make sure we get $0.50 value out of each HH point but it doesn't always work that way, such as in these examples:
- Feb 25 stay, you can get the Moab Homewood Suites (to visit the Arches National Park) at 36,000 points (or pay $149/night) but the redemption during high season in the summer will cost you 60,000 points (or pay $259)
- Feb 25 stay, you can redeem 56,000 points at Home 2 Suites Denver Downtown (or pay $229)
Our best HH redemptions:
- July 2021: Hampton Inn Visalia at 40,000 points that was well over $300 to book with cash (near Sequoia National Park)
- July 2021: Hampton Inn Fresno at 30,000 points that was well over $300 to book with case (near Yosemite National Park)
